The most important thing in grooming your yorkshire terrier or maltese is to completely comb out every hair BEFORE the bath. Make sure you clean the ears (use purple power - also can be ordered from Ponderosa Products) and trim the toenails. Teeth should be brushed before the bath. I have a shower stall cut down and mounted waist high for my dogs they love their shower and it is much easier to rinse ALL soap from the hair. I use a little Coat Handler and Pet Silk after the bath. This leaves the coats very shiny and easy to comb out.
